It's 2026 - 34 years after The Rio Earth Summit, 31 years after COP1.
The need to attract people to a better future – as opposed to just all the rational reasons for action - is more critical than ever.

Communication around climate and nature has largely failed - we are not yet effectively ‘attracting people to a compelling better future’.
Visions 2100 was published in 2015 at COP21 in Paris and set out to change the global narrative on climate change away from one of avoiding long term harm and towards building the case for attracting people to that better future.
Stories from 2030 was published in 2021 at COP26 in Glasgow and extended the thinking from the first book to consider what immediate action would be needed before 2030 to allow for that better world to be created.

The next edition with stories from 2040 will be published at COP31 in November 2026 and will continue the back-casting story and also expand beyond looking at climate as an isolated issue.

If you want a different future, the first step is to say what that future looks like.

The Ask:
-
A 200-300 word story written from the year 2040 that looks out the 2040 window on what the world is at that time and/or looks back from 2040 on the journey to then.
-
Focused on something specific so that we get into the details - it can be an industry, a technology, nature, governance, community, psychology or anything at all that is relevant and exists in that world.
-
Leaning towards the positive – that better future – but do not shy away from the tough stories and lessons that we will continue to face and maybe learn.

For possible inclusion in the book, submit your story by 31st March 2026
